About Hanly Woolen Mills
The Hanly family have been weaving wool in Ballyartella in Co. Tipperary since 1893 when Denis Hanly and his son John set up a vertical woollen mill beside the Nenagh river, in a disused flour mill. Today, Brian Hanly, is the fourth generation of Hanly to run the company, employing 32 people in Ballyartella. Hanly’s work using only natural fibres as raw materials and all are sourced from certified suppliers who produce and source their wools and cashmere in a sustained and ethical manner. Located beside the Nenagh river in Ballyartella Woollen Mills, the river still drives the traditional water turbine which generates all the electricity for the mill.
