Horsehair is a lovely material for a bath brush: soft and pliable, but sturdy, durable and with a bit of give. The tampico fibre adds a firmer edge, so it's good for a proper scrub in the bath or shower without feeling harsh. Look after it and it will last for years.
Tampico, also called Mexican fibre, comes from the leaves of certain agave plants that grow mainly in Mexico. It's used in bath and nail brushes as well as tougher deck brushes and yard brooms. Mixed with horsehair, it gives a brush that feels gentle on the skin but still gets into the hard-to-reach spots between your shoulder blades.
The handle is oil-treated oak from FSC-certified sources. At 144g it's light enough to use comfortably every day.
How to use
Wet the brush, add soap and scrub in circles. After use, rinse and let the brush dry hanging, or standing on its bristles, so water drains away from the wood, which is more sensitive to moisture.
Care: now and then, clean the brush with washing-up liquid and warm water and let it dry fully, bristles down. Every so often, rub a little food-grade oil or cold-pressed linseed oil into the wood with a cloth and let it soak in before the next use. If you use linseed oil, rinse the cloth thoroughly in water afterwards, as linseed-soaked cloths can catch fire. Oak contains tannic acid and can leave small rust-coloured marks on a bath or sink; a cut lemon dipped in bicarbonate of soda will lift them.

Why We Love This Brand
Iris Hantverk began as a small brush maker in Stockholm, and its wood and natural fibre brushes are still made much as they were in the late 19th century: every brush is made by hand by visually impaired craftsmen. Only natural and ethically sourced materials are used, for a collection that is both beautiful and practical.
