The Faerly CO2 Cylinder Exchange Programme

With home collection, you book and pay €7 per box on our site, pick the days that suit you, and DPD collects from your door. You don't need to be in if you've told us a safe spot. With a Pickup Shop, you book and pay DPD directly on their returns portal, print their Pickup Shop label and drop the box into one of over 600 DPD Pickup Shops, usually a local convenience store or petrol station. Find your nearest Pickup Shop. The two use different labels, so use the one that matches how you booked.

Yes, but get in touch first. Home collection and Pickup Shop are separate DPD services with different labels, so a Pickup Shop can't accept a box with a home collection label. We'll cancel your collection and refund your booking, and then you can book your return directly with DPD and use their Pickup Shop label.

No, start whichever way suits you. Order first and send your empties back later, or send empties first and use the credit on your order. We suggest letting a few empties build up, to spread the cost of the collection.

No. Send back as many as you have, from any brand, whether you bought them from us or not. The only minimum is 2 cylinders per box for home collection and Pickup Shop returns, and there's no minimum at Faerly HQ. Every cylinder we accept earns €10 of CO2 credit, and you can use your credit on any number of cylinders in your next order. There's no one-for-one rule.

No deadline, and no charge if you hang on to a cylinder. Your €10 credit is waiting for you whenever it comes back.

Home collection and Pickup Shop returns start at 2 cylinders, so most people hang on to it until the next one runs out. There's no deadline, so there's no rush. Or drop it into Faerly HQ for free.

Yes. Just reply to your collection confirmation email with any weekday that suits you better, and we'll rebook it.

No problem for home collection. Write your name and order number clearly on the box and the DPD driver will attach a barcode tracking label. Pickup Shop returns need the printed Pickup Shop label.

When your machine stops fizzing your water, it's empty. You can also weigh it: a full cylinder is roughly 1.2kg and an empty one is usually 700g to 800g, though weights vary a little between brands.

We can't give credit for damaged or rusted cylinders. We'll still send them for recycling, but there's no credit payable on them.

Please don't put them in the bin. CO2 cylinders are designed to be reused for up to 10 years. Send them back to us or drop them into Faerly HQ, and we'll make sure they're reused or recycled properly.

No, and that's deliberate. Posting out an empty box just so it can be filled and sent back isn't environmentally sound, so we ask you to reuse a box you already have. Our tip: always keep the box your gas arrives in. It's the best box for sending your empties back. Our 2 and 4-pack boxes are made for us from upcycled cardboard from the bottling industry, so they're already on their second life.

One single, sturdy box, strong enough to carry the weight of your cylinders and compact enough that they fit snugly. If you only have smaller boxes, put them securely inside a larger one. We don't recommend Amazon boxes, as the cardboard is too thin for the weight of cylinders.

1. Pack 2 to 12 cylinders in each box. 13 to 24 cylinders need two boxes.
2. Fill any gaps so the cylinders can't move or roll around inside the box.
3. Always use a box, taped securely closed. Please don't send cylinders in a plastic bag or wrapped only in plastic or paper.
4. Remove or cover any old shipping labels and barcodes, so DPD scans the right one.
5. Attach your return label securely to the box.
6. Only send the number of boxes you booked, as DPD charges us for every box.

€30, which includes a €10 deposit. Return the empty and you get €10 CO2 credit, so each cylinder works out at €20.

Usually within 3 working days of your empties being collected. Pickup Shop returns can take a little longer, as it depends on when DPD collects from the shop.

Yes. If you need to order urgently, email us once your collection is booked and we can send your credit in advance.

Check your spam folder, as they do sometimes end up there. Still nothing? Get in touch with your order number, or your Pickup Shop receipt if you sent them back through a Pickup Shop, and we'll track it down.

Your code works on one order. If you'd rather not use it all in one go, ask us and we'll split it into smaller codes.

No, the deposit comes back as CO2 credit, not cash. That's what keeps the exchange going.

Anywhere on the island of Ireland, in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. We don't offer the exchange outside Ireland at the moment.

Free delivery is on orders of €75 or more after your CO2 credit and any other discount codes are applied. So 4 cylinders (€120) with €40 of credit comes to €80 and ships free, but 3 cylinders (€90) with €40 of credit comes to €50, and delivery is €5.95.

We know it's frustrating to be just shy of free delivery. You can add anything else from our range, or another cylinder or two, to bring your order over €75. Remember, you don't need to swap one for one. Most of our customers find buying and returning four at a time is the sweet spot, as the order always comes out with free delivery.

Not usually. Because of how DPD plans its routes, deliveries and collections are booked separately. They often happen on different days, sometimes with different drivers, so we schedule them separately and you'll get a separate confirmation for each.

GROHE says its system isn't compatible with other cylinders, so we can't promise it. That said, lots of our customers use our screw-in cylinders with GROHE Blue without any trouble. It's worth checking your warranty first.

No. We're an independent Irish business, and we're not affiliated with, or endorsed by, SodaStream. We sell compatible cylinders that fit SodaStream machines, and all our CO2 comes from European suppliers.

Each 425g cylinder makes up to 60 litres of sparkling water. If you like your water very fizzy, expect closer to 40 litres. How long that lasts depends on how much your house drinks.

Tip: chill your water before you carbonate it. Cold water absorbs CO2 more easily and holds its fizz for longer.
