Rinse aid has its own compartment in most dishwashers. The machine adds a little during the final rinse to help water run off dishes and glasses, so they dry with fewer spots and streaks.

Bio-D's version does that job with a plant-based formula, and it's been an Ethical Consumer Best Buy. When the bottle's empty, it can be refilled rather than replaced.

It helps your dishwasher's drying cycle along, so there's less need to finish glasses off with a tea towel. It works in hard water areas too, where spots and smears on glassware tend to be worst. There are no synthetic perfumes or dyes, and it's safe for septic tanks.

How to use

Fill the rinse aid reservoir in your dishwasher, following the machine manufacturer's instructions.

Most dishwashers have a dial for how much rinse aid is released each wash. If glasses still come out spotty, turn it up a setting. If they look smeary or streaky, turn it down. Top up the reservoir whenever your machine's rinse aid light comes on.
