A 650ml hand-blown glass bottle with a stick of binchotan charcoal inside, which filters tap water as you go. It takes out chlorine and adds minerals, so your water tastes cleaner, with nothing to plug in and no plastic cartridge to throw away.

Binchotan is a traditional Japanese way of filtering water with charcoal. black + blum's charcoal is sustainably sourced and made in Laos using traditional Japanese methods, from the branches of fast-growing native trees. Drop the stick in, wait about an hour, and the water tastes cleaner.
The glass is taste neutral, and the underside of the lid is stainless steel, so no plastic touches your water. A stainless steel coil holds the charcoal in place and the sleeve gives the glass some protection in a bag. It's as good on a desk or bedside table as it is out and about.

How to use
The charcoal comes pre-washed and ready to use. Fill the bottle with water first, then add the charcoal, as it's dense enough to crack the glass if dropped into an empty bottle. The taste improves after about an hour. Use it with plain water only, not tea or fruit infusions.
After about three months of daily use, recharge the charcoal by boiling it for 10 minutes and letting it dry. Replace it after about six months. Broken pieces still work.
Care: take the charcoal out, then wash the bottle regularly with hot soapy water and a bottle brush. The glass bottle and the silicone seal are dishwasher safe. The lid is not.
