A small, handmade stand for a single stem or a few cuttings. A solid beech wood base holds a clear glass vessel, so you can watch new roots form on the windowsill, or keep a flower from the garden on your desk.
- Handmade in Carnaross, Co. Meath, by Caulfield Country Boards
- Solid beech wood base with a natural waney edge
- Clear glass vessel for flowers, herbs or cuttings
- Engraved with an old Irish saying
- Comes boxed, ready to give
This is the natural edge version. "Waney edge" is the joiner's name for timber that keeps the outer edge of the tree, so the line of each base follows the original log and no two are quite the same.
The engraving is an Irish proverb that translates as "The flower not found today will be at the height of blossoms tomorrow". It's a lovely thing to give someone setting up a new home, or anyone who likes growing things from cuttings.
Made in Ireland. Comes in a gift box.
How to use
Fill the glass with fresh water and pop in a stem or cutting. For rooting, cut just below a leaf joint, strip the lower leaves so none sit in the water, and keep it somewhere bright but out of strong direct sun. Top up or change the water every few days. Once the roots are a few centimetres long, the cutting is ready to pot up.
Wipe the wood with a dry or slightly damp cloth and keep the base dry. Don't soak it or put it in the dishwasher. Wash the glass by hand.
Materials
Beech wood base, glass vessel.
