A solid gloss green top over an unglazed white ceramic base. Underneath the colour it is all business: fill it, push it into the soil, and the porous ceramic keeps your plant supplied for days at a time.
- Self-watering olla with a gloss green glazed upper and unglazed white ceramic lower
- Made from microporous ceramic with a natural cork stopper
- Handcrafted in Portugal by artisans in the Leiria region
- Typically only needs refilling once a week
- Suitable for all green houseplants, indoors and out
- No electricity, no plastic, no waste
Ollas have been used for thousands of years, and the idea behind them has not needed improving. Unglazed ceramic is porous, so water passes slowly through the walls and into the soil right at root level. Your plant draws what it needs, when it needs it. No soggy roots, no forgotten watering.
The plain green is the quiet one in the range. A single flat colour on top, no pattern, so it sits behind the plant rather than competing with it. If you have several pots going and already enough colour in the room, this is the one.
Each is made by hand by potters Ana and Vitor in their workshop in Portugal's Leiria region, where ceramic skills have passed down through generations. The glaze varies slightly from piece to piece.
How to Use
- Make a small space in the soil near your plant and press the olla in, pointy end down. Leave the rounded top with the cork visible above the soil line.
- Remove the cork and fill the olla with water.
- Pop the cork back in to slow evaporation.
- Refill when empty. Most plants need a top-up about once a week, though this varies with season, plant type and room conditions.
Heading away? Water the surface soil as normal and fill the olla before you go. It takes over as the surface water is absorbed.
Not suitable for leaving outdoors in freezing conditions.

Materials
- Body: microporous ceramic, unglazed lower section with a gloss green glaze on the upper portion
- Stopper: natural cork
What These Do
- Microporous ceramic: The unglazed lower section lets water pass through tiny pores gradually, delivering moisture straight to the roots and mimicking natural ground moisture.
- Gloss green glaze: The glazed upper portion means water only seeps from the buried, unglazed section, directing it where the plant needs it.
- Natural cork: Keeps evaporation down and stops soil and debris getting into the water.
